Jonathan Snyder (PhD, University of Michigan) is the Academic Director of the American College of the Mediterranean (ACM) - Institute for American Universities (IAU) in Madrid where he teaches courses in contemporary Spanish literary and cultural studies. He is the author of Poetics of Opposition in Contemporary Spain: Politics and the Work of Urban Culture (Palgrave Macmillan, Hispanic Urban Studies, 2015) and the Spanish edition Poéticas de la oposición. Política y obra cultural en la España actual (Brumaria, Colección Mastín, 2018). Snyder and coauthor Jesús Alcaide are responsible for the prologue and first Spanish translation of the 1977 queer manifesto Maricas y sus amigas entre revoluciones (Consonni, 2021), written by Larry Mitchell and illustrated by Ned Asta. Snyder has published on cultural production such as photography, film, drama, performance, and zine literature in Spanish territory in relation to social change, political economy, and the cultures of protest in social movements. From 2021 to 2023, Snyder served as Academic Director of the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) in Madrid.

Snyder has taught courses as Lecturer of Spanish Literary and Cultural Studies for the Madrid programs at Cornell University, Boston University, New York University, and ACCENT International. His prior work experience includes freelance collaboration with the Museo Reina Sofía, PHotoEspaña, and Madrid-based artists, among others.
